Leavening Agents to Be Used In Bread Baking:

I was recommended to use good quality leavening agents by a very experienced chef to have the perfect results for baking bread at home. Generally, Leavening agents are products that help the flour rise and ferment for good texture and a good taste of the bread. The most common leavening agents to bake the best bread at home are as follows:

Yeast

You may hear people saying that the best bread is usually baked with yeast as it helps the bread rise properly. You may find homemade bread recipes with yeast online easily nowadays, too, to have better baking results.

Yeast is made from the living cells of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae.

Baking soda

Flavoured breads, cookies, muffins, and other bakery products are usually leavened by baking soda as the carbon dioxide helps the bread rise. It can be easily used in replacement of yeast; however, yeast provides better results if compared.

Baking powder

Some people prefer baking powder over baking soda or yeast to bake bread, as baking powders are not fatty or acidic. A teaspoon of baking powder helps the starches rise and ferment properly before being baked.

Helpful Tips on Baking a Good Bread

  • Always prevent the bread dough for getting stiff as it will bake into a stiff bread which would have a bitter taste. I personally left it for a long time once, and it got hard enough to bake a very hard-crusted bread.
  • The dough should be given enough time to expand and rise properly, and when it is extensible to stretch, it is ready to go in the oven. However, you may also find ways to make bread without the oven, which is more favourable.
  • Bread dough has two essential proteins, Gliadin and Gluten. Where Gluten gives the dough its appearance and elasticity, Gliadin helps the floor particles stick together.

Do You Know?

Gluten allergies have become a common disease these days, and people allergic to Gluten cannot consume regular bread. For this purpose, gluten-free bread is being sold in the market.
